Matsusaka Castle

Matsusaka Castle
(Ise Province/Mie Prefecture)

Ujisato Gamo was assigned to Isenokuni in the 12th year of Tensho era (1582) and based on Matsugashima-jo as his residence castle, but built Matsuzaka-jo in the 16th year of Tensho (1588).
After Ujisato was transfered to Aizu Wakamatsu, Kauzutada Hattori and then Shigekatsu Furuta became the lord of the castle. Isenokuni was absorbed in the territory of Kishu Han in the 5th year of Genna era (1619) and their representative was assigned to the castle.
The castle used to have a 3 layered castle tower, but it is said the castle tower was felled by a typhoon in the 1st year of Tenpoh era (1644). In its outer citadel (Ninomaru), the administrative headquarters (Jin'ya) of Kishu Han was built in the 6th year of Kansei era (1794).
