Kanazawa Castle (Kaga Province/Ishikawa Prefecture)
Kanazawa-jo was originally located in Oyama Gobo which was the base of Ikko-Ikki that ruled the Kaganokuni province. In the 8th year of Tensho era (1580), Nobunaga Oda's subordinate, Morimasa Sakuma conquered Oyama Gobo, and ruled over Kanazawa-jo. Morimasa Sakuma followed the orders of Katsuie Shibata, but after Nobunaga's death, he was defeated by Hideyoshi Toyotomi at the battle of Shizugatake, and Toshiie Maeda became the rulers instead. Toshiie Maeda performed well for Hideyoshi, and his territory was soon increased, becoming the lord who ruled over Noto, Kaga and Ecchuu provinces, with Kanazawa-jo serving as his base. After Hideyoshi's death, Toshiie passed away soon, and let his son, Toshinaga succeeded him. Toshinaga surrendered to Ieyasu and kept the Maeda clan's fortunes, with Kanazawa-jo serving as the capital. The Ishikawa gate and Sanjukken turrets still exist today, as well as the Hishi turret, the Hashizumemon gate, Hashizumemon Tsuzuki turret, Gojukken Nagaya etc, which are being restored. The castle also has a lord garden called the Kenrokuen.
