Morioka Castle

Morioka Castle
(Mutsu(Rikuchu) Province/Iwate Prefecture)

Morioka-jo was built on a mound at the crossing point of the Kitakami and Nakatsu rivers.
The local ruler Nobunao Nanbu started construction in the 1st year of Bunroku era (1592), and moved from Kunohejo to Morioka-jo after it was finished.
Using rock fences is rare to eastern Japan, the citadels used natural dry stone, and the outer citadel's west side used stone from different ages, such as Kiriishi and Taka Ishigaki.
