Kagoshima Castle (Satsuma Province/Kagoshima Prefecture)
Also called Tsurumaru-jo. After the battle of Sekigahara, the Shimazu clan built this as their home, with the mountains against their backs and forming an enclosed fort. At first, the first feudal lord Tadatsune Shimazu thought of building a town there, but the father Yoshihiro was against it because it held poor defense. However, time passed and the castle was built to let the town expand outwards. The castle's structure is simple and lacked even the castle tower, but the Shimazu clan had bases planted across the land and protected the country that way. During the period between the late Tokugawa period and the Meiji restoration period, the Anglo-Satsuma war and Satsuma Rebellion, Takamori Saigo met his end in the castle.
