Takashima Castle (Shinano Province/Nagano Prefecture)
The construction of Takashima-jo was started in 1592 by Takayoshi Hineno, the retainer of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, who was assigned to Suwa Province and finished in 1598. It was called the "Floating Castle in Suwa" since the Lake Suwa used to locate near the edge of the castle those days. Now the castle faces the lake no more due to the reclamation of the lake. The Suwa clan who used to rule the Suwa Province came back as the lord after the Battle of Sekigahara. In the 4th year of Meiji era (1871), the castle was abandoned, but the castle tower, turrets and gates were restored in 1970.
