Fukuyama Castle (Bingo Province/Hiroshima Prefecture)
Built by Katsunari Mizuno and the construction finished in the 8th year of Genna era (1622). Masanori Fukushima was assigned to this province after the Battle of Sekigahara and dissmissed in due time. Katsunari became to rule a part of this province instead and newly built this castle for his residence. Katsunari is a cousin of Ieyasu Tokugawa and is told he was a brave commander. In the Sengoku period when he was young, he left the Tokugawa family and served like a mercenary for various daimyos and distinguished himself in wars in various places. The Tokugawa shogunate assigned him to Fukuyama as an inspector to keep watch on daimyos in the west, thinking highly of his such braveness.
