Oka Castle
Oka-jo is a castle built on a mountain pincered by the Inaba and Shirataki rivers, along which are cliffs. The castle was built in the 1st year of Bunji era (1185), and the builder was said to be the local aristocrat Koreyoshi Ogata. Thereafter, Bungo's governor Ootomo's subordinate Shiga clan became the ruler, and defended successfully against Satsuma's Shimazu forces in the 14th year of Tensho era (1586). |
