Yamagata Castle (Dewa(Uzen) Province/Yamagata Prefecture)
It is said the origin of Yamagata-jo was the one built by Kaneyori Shiba in the 1st year of Enbun era (1356). Shiba clan changed its name as Mogami. The castle was expanded by Yoshiaki Mogami during Bunroku era (1592-1595) and turned in the current form by the repair made by Tadamasa Torii in the Edo period. The previously existed Sannomaru had a vast area and boasted of its prominent scale in Japan. The castle site is currently arranged as a park and the drystones and moats remain today. The main gate (Otemon) at Ninomaru and the dry stone and the bridge for the core region (Honmaru) are restored. The restoration of the main gate at Honmaru and the palace (Goten) is also planned.
