Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle
(Hizen Province/Saga Prefecture)

This is the castle built by Hideyoshi Toyotomi to use it as a base for his invasion of Korean Pensula and Mainland China after he completed his unification of Japan. The construction of the castle finished in the 1st year of Bunroku era (1592). Camps of daimyos from all over Japan were built around Nagoya-jo.
The invasion was discontinued once Hideyoshi passed away in the 3rd year of Keicho era (1598). Nagoya-jo became useless and was abandoned. After the Shimabara Rebellion, the castle was thoroughly destroyed to avoid further rebellion. In fact, you can see many of drystones destroyed in V-shapes even today.
