Tsu Castle (Ise Province/Mie Prefecture)
Tsu-jo was also called Anotsu-jo, and was the residence of Hosokawa, vassal of the Ise aristocrat Nagano family. In the 11th year of the Eiroku period (1569), Nobunaga Oda invaded Ise, and the ruler Fujiatsu Hosono surrendered. Nobunaga sent his younger brother Nobukane to take over the Nagano family and take over the castle. Nobukane performed well as part of the Nobunaga family, and after Nobunaga's death remained in Tsu-jo for a while. However, he was restructured during Hideyoshi's era, and in his stead came Ippaku Tomita . Ippaku died in the 4th year of Keicho (1599), leaving his son Nobutaka to take over. In the next year the Battle of Sekigahara broke out, and Nobutaka sided with the East forces. Tsu-jo was marked for attack by the West forces, and surrendered without a fight, with Nobutaka climbing the Takano mountain. However, after the battle Ieyasu commended him and he returned as the ruler of the castle. After this, Tsu-jo was renovated and expanded by Takatora Todo. Tsu-jo remained the Todo residence through the Edo period.
