Takamatsu Castle
(Sanuki Province／Kagawa Prefecture)

Takamatsu-jo was a sea castle built by Chikamasa Ikoma in the 16th year of Tensho era (1588). The northern part of the castle faces the Seto Inland Sea and the sea water was drawn into its moat. It is said the castle was convenient for sea transportation since it faces the sea, but the construction was very difficult due to the weakness of its foundation.
Yorishige Matsudaira (an elder brother of Mitsukuni Tokugawa) became the lord of the castle after the Ikoma clan and the Matsudaira clan held the position until the late Tokugawa shogunate after that. Most of the castle is now reclaimed and arranged as Tamamo Park.
