Matsushiro Castle (Shinano Province/Nagano Prefecture)
Matsushiro-jo was first called Kaizu-jo and built by Kansuke Yamamoto under the order of Shingen Takeda who was confronted with Kenshin Uesugi. This castles later became a stage of the Battles of Kawanakajima and functioned as a castle in the front line for the Takeda clan. The castle was under control of the Oda and Uesugi clan after the Takeda clan ruined. In the 8th year of Genna era (1622) Nobuyuki Sanada, the retainer of the Takeda clan, became the castle ruler and his clan held the post until late Tokugawa shogunate. In the 1st year of Shotoku era (1711), the castle was renamed as Matsushiro-jo. The castle was abandoned by the Meiji Restoration and went to ruin. But, in the 16th year of Heisei era (2004), gates such "Taikomon" and "Kita-Fumyomon" and the earthwork fortification were restored based on the excavation data and other material data.
