Sasayama Castle (Tanba Province/Hyogo Prefecture)
Sasayama-jo was built by Ieyasu during the Toyotomi and Tokugawa clans showdown in the 14th year of Keicho era (1609) to surround Toyotomi families in Osaka-jo. To build it, a lot of the western daimyo gathered and sent their troops to help with the construction. The design was carried out by Takatora Todo, forming a clean rectangle with three entrances protected by horseshoe defenses. The outer citadel (Ninomaru) was built as a palace, and the Dai-Shoin is currently being restored.
